Cognitive Interventions Target Cognitive Processes specifically as an area for therapeutic change. In actual practice, cognitive interventions are frequently combined with behavioral techniques, and the interrelationships between internal processes and overt behavior are emphasized. For the purposes of clarity and organization, I am separating interventions that may be combined in cognitive behavioral therapy into cognitive and behavioral components and discuss behavioral interventions in the next chapter. Cognitive treatment has become very popular since its inception, and its growth is reflected in a burgeoning collection of books and journals. As is true throughout this book, I am extracting selected elements that I find most compatible with an integrative dynamic approach.
