ABSTRACT
In the first part of the chapter, Section 16.1, we discuss when factors can be expected to generalize across random sets of individuals drawn from the same population, and our concern is with replication. In Section 16.2 the discussion is extended to the case of systematic selection of either variables or individuals, a problem called that of the invariance, hardiness, or robustness of factors.
