ABSTRACT
The model goes beyond the distinction between two levels of interdependence and attempts to describe the dynamic interrelations between them. The two levels do not represent simply two types of needs that jointly determine interaction and that are satisfied or frustrated during its course. On the one hand, the dispositional level represents a set of factors that are derivative from the conflicts and dilemmas at the given level, having their origins (in the development of both the individual and the relationship) in those conflicts and dilemmas. On the other hand, once "in place," the dispositional factors are controlling of how the problems of the given level are solved. Because this control is recognized by the participants, they interpret interaction events partly in terms of underlying dispositions.
