ABSTRACT
After school counseling, the second most frequently offered entry level counselor preparation program is in community counseling. Community counselor programs are offered by 204 of the 428 responding, or 49%, of the departments (see Table 7.1). In comparing the 1996 figure (37%) for responding departments offering community counselor preparation with the 1999 figure (49%), be advised that the apparently large increase may be due in part to the change in criteria for being classified for inclusion in this study. The 1999 criteria were more restrictive. So, with fewer programs being included in the study, the percentage of programs offering the most popular types of training will have likely increased. On some academic campuses the program is identified as agency counseling. Number of departments responding and number of accredited programs in entry level community counselor preparation.
