ABSTRACT

In order to clarify and expand our understanding of how iatrogenic damage occurs, we will now turn to some typical cases. While these disguised examples are derived from our clinical experience, which happens to be based in Israel, the phenomena described have resonated with colleagues from other countries who have confirmed that the same type of lapses in professional functioning occur in the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, and doubtless in other places as well. Different cultures and laws may produce variations, but there appear to be generic characteristics that mark and warn of the malfunctioning of caregivers wherever they practice.
