ABSTRACT
Introduction We receive large amounts of information about our environment via our senses and this information is converted into neural impulses that are sent to the brain via afferent neurons. Incoming information from all the senses is integrated in the brain. We are not simply passive recipients of sensory input; we respond to incoming information. For example, we orient to a loud noise (see Chapter 8). Some of the responses are automatic, while some require consideration and selection.
