ABSTRACT

Entering Roosevelt High School in the middle of my junior year in January 1941, I was in for a surprise. My adviser told me that I had already taken most of the courses required for graduation in history, science, mathematics, English, and foreign language. Thus, although I took a few additional core courses, for example, more chemistry, I spent most of my class time at Roosevelt in subjects such as drama, speech, civics, and physical education. Also, I added extracurricular activities, such as debating and student politics, becoming junior class president.
