ABSTRACT
In The Manifesto of the Communist Party, Marx and Engels graphically outline the principal features of the contemporary period, the “epoch of the bourgeoisie,” as they perceived it. In their view, the bourgeoisie, during its brief rule, had created more massive and diversified productive forces than had all preceding generations together. The period, its major protagonists, and the productive forces that were conjured up, were clearly unique.
