ABSTRACT

Despite a continuously growing body of literature, both scientific and popular scientific, power and its role in structuring everyday life is still under-explored. This outcome is partly attributable to an essentially contested character of the concept, which means that one cannot discriminate between alternative definitions of power “by appeal to theoretical criteria alone” (Wartenberg, 1990, p. 12; see also Cox, Furlong & Page, 1985, p. 29). 1
