ABSTRACT

The study of personality originates in people’s thinking about their observations of behavior and their experience. A person may start by recalling what he has observed other people doing and what he has heard them tell him about their experiences—what they saw, how they felt, etc. He may also recall his own experiences—his perceptions, his actions, and his feelings. He may remember clinical material presented in books or by patients he has observed. He may be reminded of characters in novels or plays, or of historical figures.
