ABSTRACT

For the last twenty-seven years the education and training component at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) has successfully integrated a variety of training components that include didactic, experiential, behavioral, and group education and training. Historically, the training content at DEOMI focused on three general areas. First, students were made more aware and knowledgeable about intercultural issues on race relations, and equal opportunity. Second, students were to develop skills and knowledge to be effective small group leaders and facilitators on issues related to racial harmony and equal opportunity. Finally, students would be trained in knowledge regarding equal opportunity policies in the military to equip them to serve as resources (i.e., advisors) to commanders.
