ABSTRACT

An acquaintance with Wurzel is indispensable to an understanding of the unfortunate consequences of the certainty illusion in law. No other single writer has as carefully observed the relation between the search for a legal Absolute and the peculiarities of juridical tlrmking. If heretofore we have expressed disagreement with some of his conclusions and dissatisfaction with the superficial character of his fundamental explanation of the perpetual quest of legal certainty, this does not mean any lack of appreciation of the value of his brilliant contribution to the subject of this essay.
