ABSTRACT
All men now and then catch fleeting gimpses of themselves as figures in history. They are momentarily awed, thrilled, mystified. Those few men whose places in history are more public must experience an even more pronounced feeling of wonder, reverence and bewilderment in the face of something greater than their comprehension. The result of the debates of the committees was the Declaration of Rights and Grievances, the most important document of the Revolution before the Declaration of Independence. "Contrary to what Leonard stated, there was indeed a possible medium between absolute independence and subjection to the authority of Parliament. "An absolute independence on Parliament, in all internal concerns and cases of taxation, is very compatible with an absolute dependence on it, in all cases of external commerce." In the dominion proposal there was a solution to the colonial-imperial power struggle, but if the British ministry did not accept that solution there was nothing more to do but to declare independence.
