ABSTRACT

Born a New Jersey boy (Morristown High School, Class of 1964), educated at Syracuse University (B.A., 1968), and long a resident of New York, then California, then Florida: I’d been around. After raising a son alone for twelve years and seeing him off to college, accepting a teaching job in China was not a hard choice, given that the only gainful employment I’d seen in years, other than my own writing workshops in Florida, was substitute teaching for $8 an hour.
