When MTV’s 1983 New Year’s Eve Rock and Roll Ball, featuring Duran Duran and Flock of Seagulls, was televised Group W Cable (New York) included MTV on its roster. All Manhattan would now have the service. This added 75,000 potential subscribers in the north­ ern half of the borough. The “I Want My MTV” campaign had succeeded in the world’s largest media center.
