ABSTRACT

(1) The ways in which regression can be innocuous and unproblematic include: (2) termination, (3) regression into minuteness through compressive convergence, (4) the fact/value dichotomy being an instance of such regressive minuteness, (5) regress into obscurity (penumbra), (6) distinguishing actions from accomplishments and occurrences from performances, and (7) distinguishing pre-conditions from co-conditions and consequences. (8) Infinite regress is not vicious as such: only under various special conditions will it become so.
