ABSTRACT

In looking at ideological movements in rural America, I want first to paint a picture of the situation out of which they arise, and then to discuss, first, the movements of the far right (including religious ideologies) which are seeking to gain supporters in this time of distress, and second, some of the innovative ways of seeing the problem that are being provided by other religious perspectives. Some of the implications for the future should be evident by the time we have looked at these.
