ABSTRACT
What I want more than anything is to settle down into a disciplined life. This is not to say that I had never wanted this before. If it’s almost the new year, and all of the shop windows are decorated. If, among my presents, I find a showy pocket phone directory or an eye-catching pen, that longing comes right back. I am full of a greedy desire to use these accessories to bring some order into my life. But how? Where is it that order ends, and I begin?
