ABSTRACT

Manuel Aşotyan Efendi was an Armenian tradesman living in Gürün, between Malatya and Sivas, and the father of five children. He sent his eldest, Ardaşes, to study in America. One night, when the whole family still was eagerly awaiting a letter from Ardaşes, there was a knock on the door. They thought it was the postman, but was the gendarmes!
