ABSTRACT

The man whose work you are reading in this column is not a writer. Until three years ago, he had no involvement, close or distant, with the world of journalism. He read a great deal, but that was as far as it went. His writing was full of grammatical errors, clumsy sentences, and corrections that were not correct. Generally, he wrote as he spokebecause he didn’t have much in the way of a literary style. He knew nothing of writing technique, having never studied it in school. Just to look for this column is to understand how very modest it is. You can find his column on the page where they run the continuations. And isn’t this the page where they squeeze in things that can’t fit onto the front pages? Every week, he sketches a few thoughts into whatever empty space is left. There have been many weeks when there has been no room left at all.
