ABSTRACT

I was the one who made it possible for Hrant to go on to Tbrevank High School after finishing middle school. Tbrevank was a boarding school. Granted, Hrant’s family was in Istanbul, but in difficult circumstances. He had nowhere to live when he was in middle school, so, like it or not, he’d stayed on at the orphanage as a mentor. But when he finished middle school, that ended, too. But he was getting good grades, and he got himself through middle school. When we explained his situation, it wasn’t hard to get him a place at Tbrevank. I can’t say I spent much time with Hrant while he was in high school. By now, he was deep into leftist politics. But in those days, so was the rest of the younger generation.
