ABSTRACT

95The quest to find a way to transform the deeply troubled relationship between the US and its allies (the West) and Pakistan tends to focus either on Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan or on the ways Pakistan itself is governed. This article argues that progress on these two fronts would greatly benefit if the Pakistan-India conflict could be settled. This endeavor, in turn, requires a reassessment of the geopolitical thesis that the West ought to court India in order for it to “balance” China.
