ABSTRACT
The previous chapter discussed the difficulty in finding new hazardous waste management facility sites in the United States. This chapter focuses on that difficulty in small geographic regions. The objective is to present a site screening process to aid location decisions that lends credibility to a siting program. We discuss various methodological approaches to site eval uation, the use of siting criteria and location standards, and the role of dif ferent actors in the process. The technical evaluation presented relies on en vironmental and socio-economic impact analysis methods that are familiar to planners.
