ABSTRACT

There is no one reason why it took so long to structure and accept the modern paradigm of medical care. The roots of modern medicine’s delayed growth are to be found in ancient Greece, Roman hegemony, the collapse of Rome along with its infrastructure, subsequent anarchy and the rise of the Western Church with its highly structured theology, among other factors. An attempt will be made in this final section to analyze these factors and the role each played in limiting and retarding change in our understanding and delivery of health care.
