ABSTRACT
Hegel's view of corporations was the first explicit attempt by a modern philosopher to give guild values and aspirations a central place in political theory. Durkheim followed him in this field, and their achievements have not been significantly improved upon since. Hegel still presents a unique challenge to received views on the function and significance of vocational and economic groups.
