ABSTRACT

Mohandas K. Gandhi urged that something constructive must be done before the crisis escalates beyond control. He wrote two letters to Adolf Hitler trying to do just that. People have been trying for the past half a century to throw off the British rule. The British audience may have well been offended by Gandhi's comments, but he made a valid point. Gandhi's prophetic statements went unappreciated in Great Britain. By going to the roots of the problem oppressing the world in the eve of World War II, Gandhi opposed the lies of both the dehumanizing peace and the dehumanizing war. Nearly all western thought since the last war, certainly all "progressive" thought, has assumed tacitly that human beings desire nothing beyond ease, security, and avoidance of pain. One-fifth of the human race has been brought under the British heel by means that will not bear scrutiny.
