ABSTRACT
For that would amount to taking sides with the communist ideal, and I am far from that. For all of my dissatisfaction with our present economic orders I nevertheless lack any hope that the path chosen by the Soviets wi l l lead to improvements. Indeed, any such hopes I might ever have nourished have perished during the decade of Soviet rule. I remain an old-style liberal.
