ABSTRACT

Whi le i t is true that Freud's exposition is so masterly that even very bold steps forward seem quite natural, nobody can survey al l possible objections, and Freud neither dealt at length w i t h the views of Adler and Jung and the later writ ings of Otto Rank, nor d i d he anticipate all o f the objections raised against psychoanalysis in recent years. His reactions to the men mentioned w i l l be considered in subsequent chapters, but one objection that is heard frequently needs to be noted now.
