ABSTRACT

Except for one small change, this outburst appears in a letter Jung wrote February 28, 1943, to a student. The one change I have made is to substitute "psychology" and "psychologist" where Jung wrote "philosophy" and "philosopher." I f Jung had been right about philosophy, his statement should not lose its t ruth when this change is made, for psychology is no more privi leged than philosophy. His point of departure in this letter was Heidegger, and in the Heidegger chapter of this tr i logy (in Section 42) this passage was quoted as Jung wrote it , and there it can also be seen how, toward the end o f the

letter, Jung specifically included Kierkegaard, Hegel, and Nietzsche i n his attack.
