ABSTRACT

Freud's concern was clearly due to the worry that the preoccupation w i t h spooks might compromise the scientific respectability of psychoanalysis for wh ich he had worked so hard against great odds. But his attitude was totally different from that ascribed to h im by Jung. I t is admirable that Aniela Jaffé included three fine passages from Freud's letters i n an appendix to Memories, Dreams, Reflections. That seems to me to illustrate a truly scientific spirit.
