ABSTRACT
In this chapter we compare Aboriginal mothers' and fathers' expecta tions and desires about family size. Employing frameworks derived from both evolutionary and sociocultural anthropology, we discuss some of the implications that men and women's contrasting perceptions have for family planning goals, gender relations, and parenting in one Australian Aboriginal community.
