ABSTRACT

Ongee male children from Little Andamans frequently play the game of Gukwelonone (hide and seek). Different levels of meaning unfold in this game through the roles played by the fathers of the participants. Using the game of hide and seek as it is thought about and enacted by the Ongees, this chapter analyzes relationships and values of sons, fathers, stepfathers, adopted fathers, and fathers-in-law, within this community of hunters and gatherers.
