ABSTRACT
I don’t like to think back on these things, they happened a long time ago— and look at what my life is, today. I am old, and what has been gained? It was all very different in 1939, when I had hopes and dreams—even as the clouds were gathering in Europe, and the German army had already crossed the borders of my country. My aim then was to study medicine, but I had my first setback when I was a nineteen-year-old girl.
