ABSTRACT

Theory of games deals with situations which are different from those discussed in the other chapters of this book in one very important respect. So far the prospects of the states of the world were supposed to be independent of the individual’s strategy. The fact that the individual had taken the umbrella had no effect on the weather. The pay-off which he ultimately received was determined by both the state of the world and by the strategy. The former, however, was independent of the latter.
