ABSTRACT
The Late Pliocene was a time of both global climatic changes and critical events in hominid evolution. Recent advances have led to new and sharpened perceptions of the nature and chronology of climatic shifts in many parts of the world, of biotic changes in Africa in particular, and of hominid evolutionary events during this time. In this contribution I analyse some hypotheses and predictions that link the new environmental and hominid data.
