T oday it’s clear that both doctors and patients are in an epoch entirely different from the 1920s or even the 1940s. We need a label for this new epoch. Because I have used the term postmodern in describing the new forms of family life that have emerged since the 1960s, I’m going to try it on medicine as well. The postmodern doctor and patient: What are they like?
