ABSTRACT
In chapter 1, we outlined the essential elements of the liberal perspective, and in chapter 5, we presented the modernist (classical liberal/libertarian) incarnation of this perspective. We also indicated some of the key differences between the classical approach and the contemporary liberal approaches upon which critical liberalism is based. Several considerations move contemporary liberals to go beyond the classical liberal position toward one advocating additional (more interventionist) roles for government.
