ABSTRACT
Bose returned to India in April of 1936. Since his departure in early 1933, he had been in India only once. In late 1934 he had wanted to visit his dying father, but upon his arrival in Calcutta on December 4, 1934 he was able to take part only in the Hindu rituals of grief. His father had died shortly before his arrival (Gordon 1990: 290 f.). In early 1935, Bose was in Europe again.
