ABSTRACT

There is not a unique process that attaches itself mostly to political and religious conservatives. All subcultures have some degree of ethnocentrism. Subcultures develop their own set of norms and values that have to be justified. The desire to use authority figures applies to right-wing authoritarians seeking to maintain conventional society as well as to dehumanizers wanting to keep conservative Christians under control. The author found evidence in his previous work of resistance toward allowing conservative Christians a place in academia. This is probably the case in other areas in our society where progressives have social power, but it is in academia where we can investigate social aspects such as Christian dehumanization. It is quite possible that education dampens the degree to which the highly educated state that they are open to dehumanization, but does not dampen the degree to which such individuals practice dehumanization.
