ABSTRACT

A Location Test for Two Independent Groups In this chapter we will be concerned with some alternative tests, termed nonparametric or distribution-free tests, for analyzing data from some of the kinds of experimental designs examined in the previous chapter. The first test to be presented is a randomization-of-ranks test which was first proposed by Wilcoxon (1945). This test must be a reasonable one because it has been invented by a number of individuals. Thus Walsh (1965) labels it the "Wi l coxon-Mann-Whitney-Festinger test."
