ABSTRACT

The viability of culture hinges on whether truth is found or made, whether it descends toward us as we ascend toward it. If Truth is f ound, then as an act of love it reveals the transcendent and beautiful; if it is only made, then as an act of will it asserts the immanent and aesthetic. When aestheticized, the Liberal and Fine Arts have no objective Ideal to reveal. As such, they are denied practical legitimacy in the pursuit of civilized society.
