ABSTRACT

ChaP:      Ladies and Gentlemen! As the lecture series delivered by our visiting professor seems to approach culmination in our presummit meeting today, I hope that I express also the request of the other listeners in asking you kindly to wrap up your arguments today in a way that will tell where your thesis takes us. To be more specific, if I understood correctly, your theory encounters the vicissitudes of the “pendulum” paradigm according to which sexuality and creativity are oscillating between the two extreme polarities of sexual expression and repression and the balanced yetzcr-yetzira sequence or continuum. You have also posited that the pendulum model is plausibly embedded in the Neo- platonian 1 Christanized “emanation” myth of creation according to which communication and creativity is by definition unilateral and aggressive or “aggressertive” in your terms, while the yetzira-yetzira continuum originated from the kabbalistic “contraction” (tzimtzum) cosmogony, which could disseminate a more egalitarian bilateral and, most important, a broader (physical and spiritual) model of sexuality and creativity. The idea to ask for some concluding guidance occurred to me after I went over my notes and listened to the tapes in preparation 128for today’s lecture. By schematizing these postulates I realized not only that they portray a gloomy picture of our Western lifestyle, but in fact your assumptions entail implications pertaining to some of the most troubling predicaments our Western generation faces in this AIDS- inflicted era in which we are doomed to live.
