ABSTRACT
This chapter investigates the role o f horm ones as energizers o f sexual behaviour. It discusses the effects and the interactions o f gonad and pitu itary horm ones in vertebrates. H orm ones certainly exist in invertebrates too, and m ay play a similar role; bu t the evidence here is incom plete: vertebrate investigations provide a clearer picture o f their relationship to the sexual control system.
