At the end of this chapter readers will be able to:

understand the concept of cost–benefit analysis, and how it can be used to measure the economic, social and cultural impact of sport events on the cities and regions hosting the events

explain the components of cost–benefit analysis in sport, especially the economic impacts, which include spending, income, employment and multiplier effects

identify, and provide qualitative measures for, the less tangible impacts, such as civic pride, traffic flows, aesthetic development, environmental improvement and so on

lead a cost–benefit project for a sport enterprise.
