ABSTRACT

Any journey must start with a clear destination and starting point. However all too often in strength and conditioning the destination is too abstract and lacks context. This is often because the reductionist approach removes context from any analysis. This chapter provides a pathway by which a coach can ensure that analysis retains context. Utilising the reverse engineering approach, it uses sport as the context and then through a series of stages is progressively broken down to the key capacities that need to be the focus of an effective training strategy.
