ABSTRACT

One of the major benefits of any strength and conditioning programme is that it develops physical skills as well as physical capacities. yet such is the dominant focus on physical capacities that this is often overlooked. Subsequently, programmes are often planned around physiological and biomechanical variables and not around the principles of skill development. This chapter aims to address this and outlines the key skill-based factors that need to be considered in designing effective skill development programmes. It provides a pathway via which these principles can be incorporated into an effective training programme.
