ABSTRACT

Where do we start in creating a performance ecosystem? Maybe ironically this will not start by looking at factors such as culture and relationships but instead at the level that is most controllable – the level of the individual coach. The coach lies at the heart of the ecosystem, and will have more influence on the results of a programme than any other factor. Effective practice requires coaches to become self-aware of their strengths, their weaknesses, their beliefs, their attitudes, their biases. It is only when coaches “knows themselves” that they can be truly effective. This chapter provides a pathway by which coaches can increase their self-awareness enabling them to function effectively and achieve optimal results.
