ABSTRACT

In Margaret Klenck's interview earlier in this book (pages 25–31), she makes a vivid point about the filmmakers’ craft:

There is a story about the mediaeval carvers in the cathedrals who had to make the very top of the triforiums. For them, the carvings up there had to be as perfect as the carvings on the ground even though nobody's going to see them. And that's the way it feels to be on a set. Everybody is attending to everything with their own artistry — you feel it. When you walk on to a good set you can feel every single person, from the doorman to the woman who's ironing the clothes to the director — it's their attention.
