ABSTRACT
Introduction Ropes of many different types and sizes have continued to play a major role in the working of ships throughout history. Clearly, the era of the sailing ships, where cordage, in virtually every form, could be found from anchor warps to ratlines, was a dominant period in history for rope manufacturers.
