      ABSTRACT

This study has sought to identify apophatic elements in the theory and practice of C. G. Jung. It demonstrates that Jung’s work is saturated with apophatic concepts, images and dynamics. Apophasis is broadly conceived to include a range of theories, linguistic practices and behaviours. It is a lens with many facets. Just as there is no single conception of the via negativa, there is no need to identify one single occasion for apophatic thought or practice in psycho analysis. Apophatic intensity can be found in many different elements of the analytic encounter.
